Silent needles,
white with heat,
knit a striped blanket
from black skeins
covering the stars
(save one, who streaks
the dark as she falls
with the rain).
Soft drops pat the sand dune
we lie on–
gazing, brains abuzz.
Earthstars
fling open their arms,
coaxing spores to dance
in the brewing storm,
meeting the falling star
in the midst of her path
mixed in ash and crackling
sparks from our
beach fire–
a dance reflected
in the lake’s looking-glass.
